My Personal Finance Philosophy

Sometimes I feel like a scam artist for writing a blog about personal finance without really explaining how I feel about money. Before I get into the details I want to give a little background about myself, since it is the basis behind my beliefs.

My folks immigrated here ( United States) when I was 8 years old. We were fairly well off in our homeland by the standards at the time, as well off as you can be in a communist state. When we arrived here we were what most people would consider poor. It took many years, but my family has been able to reach a much higher level through hard work, persistence and education. Since I know what it is like to be poor and what it is like to have steady money I have had a very rocky relationship with money.

Follow Your Favorite Portfolio

Sorry for the short post, but sometimes things are better when they are brief (don’t tell the search engines that). Anyway I just got an email from Thrillist which surprised me. Usually they send emails about cool happenings in your city and new services that are springing up. However, today they mentioned a new site called Covestor, get it Co and Investor together ( let me guess coinvestor.com was taken ).

Buying Personal Health Insurance - Hedging My Risks

A few months back I decided to leave the comfort of full time employment and venture on my own. One of the most common concerns from coworkers, family, and friends was what are you going to do about health insurance. To tell you the truth the thought had not crossed my mind much. I am a young guy in relatively good shape (damn beer gut) and tend not to frequent the doctors office much.

The other day I was riding my bike when a lady stepped in front of me. I took a bit of a spill scraped up my side and elbow. What I realized lately is that I have been riding my bike much more gingerly. My subconscious is making me realize that I do not have health insurance and the next fall could set me back significantly when it comes to my personal finance.

With the average cost of a night stay in a hospital at almost $6,000 dollars I cannot afford not be covered.

I came up with this checklist of questions to ask yourself when buying personal health insurance.
